Chapter 10:

"So I've made a choice." Vera said, walking with her hand resting on Sam's arm as they strolled through the streets.

"I figure you've made quite a few." Sam said, flashing a smile.

"I'm going with you, on the train." Vera stated, staring ahead.

Sam raised an eyebrow, "But where I'm going is far from where you live."

"My point exactly." Vera explained slowly, biting the inside of her cheek.

Sam nodded, "So I'm guessing you're not getting on the train because of my charm?"

"Don't flatter yourself." Vera said, looking at him with a smirk on her lips.

Sam smiled, "Well if we're going to leave here we might as well get our tickets, lead the way."

"Right over this way." She guided, turning down the road to the left when something flashed across her vision. The blonde turned her head and felt her eyes grow wider, her steps stopping.

"Vera?" Sam asked, his smile fading into a look of confusion.

"Keep going this way, I'll meet you at the train station." Vera explained, "Don't worry I just see an old friend, that's all." She took her arm from his reached into her brassiere, pulling out a wad of money.

"Is that where you always keep your spare change?" Sam asked jokingly as he took the money from her.

"Well it's not like I have pockets." She explained, "I won't be more than fifteen minutes I swear."

"I get it, I'll be waiting."

Vera shot him one last smile before disappearing into the crowd. Sam stood for a moment before walking toward the train station, his hands in his pockets and a whistle escaping from his lips. Thoughts of his home ran through his head, the thought of seeing his family again, and being at his work. He ran his fingers through his hair as he thought of the story he could write; being kidnapped, meeting Vera, The Invisible Giraffe, and climbing off the roof. Of course, he knew he would never hear the end of it if he didn't take a few days away from the office. His mouth twitched on the corner when he thought of his promise of penny candy to Walter.

The blonde moved through the crowd and followed The Man in a brisk walk. "Leon, wait!" She called to him, now only a few feet behind him.

"Follow me Vera, we have much to talk about." The Man stated, turning to meet her, his green eyes alight with emotion.

"I know why you're here." Vera said, distress in her tone, "And, I can tell you that nothing's changed."

"Just come with me." The Man named Leon said, taking her hand and leading her toward a nearby building.

"You must be insane if you think I'd do that." Vera stated, retracting her hand from his grasp.

"Don't make a scene, Vera." Leon commanded, looking into her eyes, "Let's just get this over with."

"Where are you going to take me?" She asked, the sentence sounding more like a statement.

"Just to that restaurant, the one you just left."

"Paul's?"

"Yes, Paul's." Leon said slowly, "Now, let's go, quietly and quickly."

Vera looked at him for a moment before taking a breath, "Alright, but nothing's going to change."

"I'll try my best to change your mind."

"You have ten minutes." Vera stated before following the man deeper into the crowd.

Sam. You cheeky devil.

I love these two! They're quite the dynamic duo ;P
I also love how at first Leon is titled "The Man" with capital letters XD It's like his title.
